Update From The Riveras
January 2011
Dear Family and friends:
We hope and pray things are well for you and your loved ones. We are currently in Corpus Christi, TX and wanted to post yet another update. As most of you know by now, and due to the increased violence in Mexico, after considering the advice of our pastor, our families and those of you who emailed us, we left Mexico this past summer of 2010. We first went to CO to report to our pastor and church, then to Corpus Christi to check ministry opportunities as we made our way to see our families in FL. During our time in CO our pastor and church leadership recommended us and provided for us to receive some counseling. We are forever grateful for that! Through that process we discovered some areas of our lives needed some attention. We’ve said it a couple of times: The violence might’ve moved us out of Mexico, but God used it to bring these issues to our attention.
We can not tell you how hard and difficult this process has been, and how many times all of us (at one point or another, and maybe still do to some extent) have wished we could just go back! So we really want to say THANK YOU for your continued emotional, financial and spiritual support during this time. We felt your prayers as we made the decision to return to the US, as we’ve gone through the process of getting much needed rest and direction for our lives and ministry, as well as now as we’ve made the decision to stay in Corpus Christi.
We continue as missionaries with Mexico Medical, more so, Edwin. He continues with his administrative work and is taking on some other responsibilities for the mission as well. He will make occasional trips there, to keep good relationships with the staff. He is also making contact with local churches and ministries here, as he will continue to bring missions groups to Corpus. Shelley is focusing on the girls and their education, their adjustment to life in US, and other daily activities. She has also already connected with the local network of Christian midwives here.
Please continue to pray for our transition and adjustment to life in the US, and the people of Mexico and Samachique, as they face such uncertainty during these times of unrest. Also pray for wisdom and protection for the leadership and staff of Mexico Medical who are still ministering to the Tarahumaras.
Again, THANK YOU for such an important role you play in our lives and ministry.
May God continue to lead and bless you in all you do!
Edwin & Shelley Rivera
